I’ve joined in with ‘My Fictional World’ for this week’s #WordoftheWeek – hosted by Jocelyn at The Reading Residence.  My word this week is ‘bookworm’.

What were your favourite reads from your childhood?

From my younger childhood ‘The Enchanted Wood’ and ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ without a shadow of a doubt – both by Enid Blyton, of course.  I also absolutely loved the seven days ‘Topsy and Tim’ boxset.

There are always those books that defined your teen reads and stay with you – what were yours?
The ‘Sweet Valley High’ series and the ‘St Clares’ and ‘Mallory Towers’ box sets.  A little later on definitely anything by Judy Blume.  I was completely absorbed in any and all of her books.

Who are your favourite authors currently?
I tend to flit around and don’t usually stick with just one author.  Saying that, the last ones I read were both by Daniel Glattauer.

Which 3 genres do you gravitate towards most often?
Mystery, historical fiction (if that is such a genre!), anything Jane Austen-esque

Can you choose your top titles from each of those genres?
‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ by Khaled Hosseini

‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen

‘The Journey’ author unknown unfortunately

And your least favourite genres?

Chick Lit (at least I have to be in ‘just’ the right mood for this)

Horror

Thriller/suspense

Of the many, many fictional and fantastical worlds, where would you most like to visit?
The Magic Faraway Tree, Hogwarts, Pemberley… yes please!

Everyone loves a villain, right?! Who would make your favourites list?
Hmmm I’m going to cop out of this one… not sure.

Share the books that have had you sobbing?
‘P.S. I Love You’

‘Homecoming’ – again I can’t remember the author

And let’s end on a high! Which books leave a smile on your face, and maybe elicit a few laughs?!

‘Mr MacGregor’ by Alan Titchmarsh.  Such a fantastic, light-hearted read.  If more than a little bit of cheese 😉
