…where will your click take you today?

Can you see the green line?

Have you ever found yourself in a bit of a rush with your little one in tow?  I know I have.  More often than not in fact!  I’ve also found myself quickly bundling our little bear into the car seat because I’m running late for the childminder’s and will be late for work.  As I bundle her into the car though, I always but ALWAYS check the green line’s showing in her harness and the straps are properly over her shoulders.  Always.

How tempting is it to think that you can’t be late for work and not check the harness is on properly?  Well we all need to pay the bills, don’t we.  One event that has really taken the wind out of my sails this Christmas is a relative and her little girl being involved in a serious car accident.  Resulting in her 4 year old now being in hospital, having already had an operation on her head and currently on bed rest with a lacerated liver.  As if that wasn’t serious enough, it would have been devastating if her car seat had not been correctly fitted.  And that’s the official line from the fire chief of the crew who cut her out of the car.  Her mum is also recovering from cuts and bruises but is devoting all her time and energy to making sure her little girl recovers.

I can’t imagine what thoughts are going through her mind.  I know the thoughts would be going through my mind, if I had been in her position with our little bear.  I have had to blink back tears several times.

So my positive thoughts and wishes go to them all.  How did that TV campaign go all those years ago? “Clunk click every trip”?

Remember the green line.

So how DOES Father Christmas know where you live anyway?

Does Rudolph have a little GPS gadget attached to his very shiney nose?  Does Santa employ a reindeer called TomTom for the night?  Does he google it before leaving the North Pole?  No.  His reindeers look for the magic reindeer glitter!

If you didn’t know this, you’re not alone!  Tonight when I picked up our little bear from the childminder’s for the last time this year, she gave me a little bag with some glitter and oats.  She then told me and our little bear that it’s very important to sprinkle it on the lawn on Christmas Eve night so that the reindeers can see it.  Then they know to guide Father Christmas’s sleigh to your house!  Well I never knew THAT!

Genius!

Here’s the Christmas card that our little bear made for us today… Image

Magic moments!

Happily playing in her little make-believe world, wheeling her dollies around the living room in her pram (at the last count she managed to fit 4 newborn-sized baby dolls in her toy pram!), I watch our little bear.

“Time to go to the library and choose a book”, I say.

“Okay Mummy!”

We walk round the corner to the library, our little bear is very excited to use the special machine to ‘beep’ her library card, return a book and choose another.  We sit on the little chairs to read it before we take it home and one by one around 20 other little people trudge in to the children’s corner with their pre-school mentors in tow!  The little ones then sit down on the floor, cross-legged in front of us, waiting for us (me and our little bear!) to read them a story!!!  Very cute.  All these little people sitting there, wide-eyed and expectant.  Our bear and I shuffle of the chairs and let the library lady sit down.  It’s story time and other than a bit of toddler-like shuffling and fidgeting, the lady has their full attention for a few minutes!  Our little bear takes it all in and listens on the edge of the circle too!

That was my magic moment today.  Very simple but oh so very magical!  All them more so because in less than 4 weeks’ time she will be doing exactly what those little ones did today with her own pre-school. Magic!

On the way out, she helped the lady at the desk to stamp her book and said, “thank you very much”.

Slip sliding away…

I’m at work, about to finish and I get a text from hubby asking if I want picking up?  Yes I do please, it’s freezing cold and it’ll take about 25 minutes in total to walk from work to pick our little bear up and back home again…

I get a reply to my text asking if I can drop him off in town to pick up a slide that he bought for our little bear today….

 Hmmm.  Okay.

So I get in the car and hubby tells me he’s going to walk back with the slide because it won’t fit in the back of our car, even with the seats down.  Hang on a minute, I think.  I’ll do it.  He’s been on his feet all day and I’ve been sat on a comfy chair for the best part of the afternoon!

What am I offering to do here? I’m telling myself it’ll be fine, while deep down I know it’s a daft idea!

We pick our little bear up, drive straight into town to the market where sits a ‘little’ plastic slide that actually looks very awkward to pick up, let alone carry!  I get out of the car and look at it from all angles then decide that if I kick this bit here and that bit there, and if I nudge that bit round there… it should collapse.  And it does!  Done.  I tell hubby that I can manage to walk home with it.  It’s not that awkward, honest :s

I literally get out of the market loading bay gates and am wondering where the nearest cash point is. My Dad’s up to his eyes in work, our friend  the ‘man with a van’ is not around and hubby is convinced that the slide needs to be home tonight.  Why we can’t leave it there tonight, secure and pick it up another night, I’m not really sure.  Hubby’s convinced it’ll get nicked.  But I’m cold and hungry.  So I decide to get some money out of the cashpoint and head to the taxi rank round the corner!  Will it fit in a hackney cab?  It did and I got it home and into the back garden without our little bear seeing it.  In the pitch black and with some very odd looks from our neighbours.

A bit of a random night but fun all the same.

What WILL I do with my time?!

This morning Mr Postman popped a big brown envelope through our letterbox.  I was very excited because I had been expecting this since the beginning of the week.  I will be even more excited to go through the contents and complete the questions….  What was it?  Our little bear’s pre-school/nursery personal record information sheets!

She starts at pre-school in 4 weeks’ time and I’m oh so excited for her.  And for me.  Not only does it mean that she won’t be stuck at home with boring Mummy each week-day morning (because we haven’t got time to go to playgroup), it also means that I get some time to ‘myself’ too!

She’s more than ready to interact with new people in different ways.  I’m more than ready to crack on with some of my projects when I’ve got my mornings ‘free’… oh and do more housework! *sigh*

The fact that she’s so very close to actually WRITING HER OWN NAME is amazing in itself. ImageOf course I’m her very proud Mummy and if you’re a parent or professional reading this, you’re probably thinking it’s perfectly normal…but to me, at 3 years old, that is amazing.

Role on 4 weeks’ time when we all (Mummy, Daddy and our little-big bear) start a new adventure!

One of my projects will be to complete my new book which is all about avoiding the guilt of a working Mum… watch this space
