‘Y’ is for yin and yang

a to z challenge yin and yang blog

In Chinese philosophy, the concept of yin-yang, which is often called “yin and yang”, is used to describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world; and, how they give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. …

So in writing, binary oppositions are our yin and yang. We can’t make sense of one without the other…

This post is for ‘Y’ in the #AtoZChallenge.

The Four Walls and the Fences

The Theme Game home four walls

The time was going quickly,

The landscape whizzing by,

No sooner had she left the platform,

Feelings were soaring high…

~

The clankety-clank of the wheels,

The swaying of the train,

Had left her feeling sleepy,

And excited all the same.

~

Familiar sights coming into view,

Feelings still as high,

The train grinding to a halt,

It all made her wonder why.

~

Why she felt a pang of loss,

Why she felt at ease,

Why she was missing where she had left,

Why she felt so pleased.

~

Then the familiar face,

Waiting at the side,

The warm welcome greeted her,

From a hug to the loving eyes.

~

This weekend had come up fast,

For that was elated,

But the four days would just not last,

And for that felt deflated.

~

Familiar sights, sounds, tastes, feelings, smells,

All of the five senses,

Never leave home where the proverbial heart is,

The four walls and the fences.

Book review: The Milk of Female Kindness

The milk of female kindness

A compelling collection of women’s views and experiences of motherhood and childhood, ‘The Milk of Female Kindness’ takes you on something of a rollercoaster ride.  The ups and downs of emotions, physical pain, desperation and, above all, love, are all words that come to mind.

The introduction in itself is powerful; at times the most powerful and thought-provoking part of the book.  That’s not to belittle the book’s contents.  Far from it.  I also enjoyed the array of questions in the ‘discussions’ section at the end.  Each one makes for an interesting debate in its own right.

If you’re looking for a book of this genre to dip in and out of, be warned – you will struggle to put it down.  That said, you can indeed digest it in bitesize chunks.  A book for everyone.  Suck it and see for yourself.

Available from Amazon.

Disclaimer:  I was sent a copy of this book for my enjoyment and to review, however all words and thoughts are my own.

‘W’ is for ‘weekly’ round-up

a to z challenge weekly blog round up

It’s time to mention a few blogs that I’ve enjoyed reading in the past week or so…  I hope you like them as much as I do:

This poem from Raggedsoulinco is very powerful and speaks volumes about mental health.

Karen Jones Gowen blogged about a stunning bird.  I used to own a parrot – they are such pretty and intelligent creatures.

The art of not getting published mentioned some wonderful quotes from writers to inspire and enjoy…

And that’s why this week’s round-up is ‘w’ for weekly!

Healing while breathing

the prompt breathe meditation

“In matters of healing the body or the mind, vacation is a true genius! “

Mehmet Murat ildan

Give yourself a moment to meditate on this quote.

Now consider that you can feel like you’re taking a well-earned refreshing break by reaching a certain level in your own mind.

It’s called meditation.

I try to do it every day.

It’s a ‘practice’ and I really do feel the benefits if I can set aside 10 minutes or so to do it everyday.

I quieten my mind, make sure I’m sitting comfortably.

I maybe grab a crystal to hold if I feel so inclined.

Then I simply breathe, simply close my eyes, simply focus on my breath.

My mind takes me to a peaceful place.  On a little break.  It’s my 10 minutes break each and every day…

You should try it.

~

After you’ve tried it, have a look at the other blogs in #ThePrompt with mumturnedmom.

‘V’ is for ‘Virtually All Sorts’

A to Z challenge blog virtually all sorts

This may be a little premature, a little presumptious… but I am so close to completing the #AtoZChallenge for April.  And what fun I’ve we’ve had along the way!

We’re on the final furlong… excited!!

To the followers I’ve ‘met’ along the way, to the readers, commenters, likers…

“Thank you.”  Yes thank you all!

And while you’re here, why not take a cheeky hop over to my website?

By the end of May I plan to turn my WordPress blog to self-hosted and redirect my website visitors to the said blog.  I’ve been waiting patiently for the A to Z Challenge to finish before even attempting this!

Have you got any constructive help and advice for me when I convert to self-hosted please?  Comment on my blog or tweet me @AllSortsHere

‘U’ is for ‘Under’ and Over

A to Z Challenge blog under and over

Truth be told, I’m not one to get hung up on stats.  But truth be told, when I got to the 100 followers mark during the #AtoZChallenge, I was pleased as punch.

Truth be told, it would have taken a lot longer to reach that satisfying milestone had I not participated.  In my world, the virtual world, it is an immense achievement.

I started April under 100 followers and I am ending April (unless I annoy a few people!) over 100 followers.

Thank you!

‘T’ is for ‘The’

A to Z Challenge blog the

Have you ever tried to write something or say something without using ‘the’?

It’s a word very commonly used.  As I write this post, I’m finding it incredibly challenging yet satisfying to write without using that word. (Nearly!)

To be fair though, it’s perhaps my shortest post and piece of writing ever!

Just a bit of #AtoZ fun peeps!
