Cancer, jog on! A poem for Race for Life…

 Cancer, jog on!

Word of the Week Cancer jog on poem

In July I will  be running Race for Life.

I’ve blogged about how much I’ve achieved through the Couch to 5k app here.

I’ve come from barely being able to jog for 60 seconds at any one time, to jogging for 30 minutes non-stop…  how good is that?!

For me, it’s very good.  I’m very proud of myself.  I’ve shocked myself and found a new hobby that I love…

(aside from blogging of course!)

Please, please get behind me… re-blog, like, comment, share, share, share ……and share again across all of your social media platforms!  It’s not for me, it’s for everyone who has been touched by cancer.

And let’s face it, that really is everyone.

My justgiving page link is at the bottom of the poem (in the main blog picture above) but here it is again for good measure.

Thank you 🙂

~

My #Word of the Week this week is ‘jog on’.  Okay so actually it’s 2 but I’m sure that’ll be allowed, just this once 😉

Devouring blogs through pinterest

Word of the week Pinterest pinning

Hands up/click your mouse/wave your mouse in the air if you love pinterest?  Just as I thought, quite a few!

Well, this week I’ve been enjoying reading blogs (as usual) but I’ve just recently started to share the blogs I enjoy by pinning them to my board ‘Blogs I love and think you will too!’

I find that pinterest is such a wealth of information and entertainment.  And it’s such a shame to ‘just’ like and comment.  It’s so easy to pin a blog post you enjoy, for the rest of the world wide web to enjoy! (pst, my share bar is the bottom of my post!…)

I plan to build my board up over the coming weeks as I devour more blogs…  I hope you will visit my board and follow me, then you can devour them too 🙂

You can also pop by every Sunday (latest post coming later today!) for my round-up of Virtually All Sorts of blogs that I have been reading this week.

It’d be great to share them with you…

In the meantime, my #WordoftheWeek with  The Reading Residence is ‘pinning’.

Chuffed with the puff!

word of the week chuffed

This week’s word has absolutely nothing to do with writing, reading or being creative.

But I had to share it with the world (well, my followers and the bloggers linking up with Word of the Week!…)

5 weeks ago I took up the Couch to 5 k challenge.  This was no mean feat because, truth be told, I’ve never enjoyed running.  But I decided to do something about the sluggish feeling festering and it needed to cost very little money, or better still be free!

When you consider that 5 weeks ago I was hard-pushed to run for 90 seconds and now I’m up to 2 x 10 minute runs… comfortably.  What’s more, I’m even enjoying it!

Yes, when you consider that, you’ll understand why my #WordoftheWeek with  The Reading Residence is ‘chuffed’.

Pop by tomorrow for my round-up of Virtually All Sorts of blogs that I have been reading this week.

It’d be great to share them with you…

This week I have mostly been exploring…

word of the week exploring

My blog has been strangely quiet this week.  You may have noticed this too.  After blogging every day in April for the A to Z Challenge, it’s been a refreshing change to be able to kick back a little and enjoy exploring other blogs, read, digest and comment too.

As much as it was very satisfying to join in and also discover some wonderful new blogs that I may never have stumbled upon otherwise, it’s been refreshing to be able to ease off the blog posts and do some reading.

Pop by later today for my round-up of Virtually All Sorts of blogs that I have been reading this week.  It’d be great to share them with you…

My #WordoftheWeek with  The Reading Residence is ‘exploring’.

Moody

Word of the week moody

First thing in the morning I tend to be black.  Until I’ve had a shower and then I go red.

A short while later I tend to go a beautiful turquoise… and here I seem to stay as the day progresses.

I treated myself to a mood ring and a couple of crystals this week.  We stopped off for an impromptu visit to a local stately home and popped into the shop after a tip-off about reasonably priced crystals.

To my delight there were mood rings for sale.  You see, I had one years ago but eventually the metal tarnished.  My new one will probably go the same way but for a couple of quid, I won’t quibble.

As I can’t normally wear metal or silver, I was surprised not to have a reaction.  Well, in fact I did have a reaction but only in so far as my body temperature heats up (or not) the metal which changes the ring’s colour and reveals my ‘mood’.  At least I think that’s how it works!… Either way, it’s very pretty.

Reminiscing…

Word of the week reminiscing

This week I have been reminiscing and writing a few little notes as part of my rekindled love of letter writing.  This rekindled love has been, well rekindled, in the form of PostCircle with Miss Beatrix, Bring Back Paper by Jocelyn at The Reading Residence and my own post ‘Join me in sending a postcard’ which was written in its own right for The Theme Game of ‘paper’.  So it’s quite apt really!  In that very same post, I ask you, my lovely readers, to join me in sending a postcard to a friend…  It may have taken me a few weeks but I have done just that this very week.

I have written notes with personal rhymes to my Canadian ‘penpal’ Jennifer and to my very good college friend Dawn.  This next week I will be going to the post office, buying self-gummed stamps not old school lickable ones (a whole post in itself for a geeky day!) and popping them both in the post box.  By doing that I will get a little warm fuzzy feeling.  In a few weeks’ time I will be posting more on how I came to be involved in the ‘penpal’ scheme at school back in the day, and how it has evolved in the digital age…

Until then, I’m going to grab my washi tape (my new obsession!) to decorate my lovely little personal notes!

My Word of the Week is ‘reminiscing’?  What’s yours?

~

Is it someone’s birthday and you don’t know what to do?

Let me write a personal rhyme especially for you.

A personal rhyme from you to them,
it’s unique, bespoke and easy.

It’s really easy peasy…

Donkey ~ My Word of the Week

Word of the week donkey a to z challenge

My Word of the Week with The Reading Residence simply has to be ‘donkey’.  As in pin the tail on the donkey.  No, I haven’t been to a child’s party.  Instead I’ve been metaphorically pinning the tail on the donkey by choosing a blog to read at random, from a list of 2000+ blog posts!

It’s my way of getting the most out of the #AtoZChallenge and enjoying a huge variety of blog posts from all genres.

What’s your Word of the Week?

Packages

This week I received 2 large (make that very large cardboard boxes.). They were sitting patiently in my hallway waiting for me when I got home from work on Friday.  However, it was tea time, I was starving and I’d had a crazy busy afternoon at work. The moment I opened said boxes had to be ‘a moment’ – not rushed.  These boxes contain my Pheonix Trader business kit and lit(erature) – see what I did there?!

The weekend is a busy one and I want to give ‘the boxes’ my full attention, taking in every detail, enjoying and savouring ‘the moment’. Sunday night will be the night!  Why not now? Because I told myself I would do a whole list of ‘to do’s now. I will be focused  and ready for Pheonix excitement… A new venture Is on the horizon…

My #WordoftheWeek with The Reading Residence is ‘packages’.

Powerful

note on a cork board

I sat down, got comfy and was watching an audience.  The audience was watching a play.  I was in another audience watching the same play.  The same play was being linked up live from their venue to my venue.  I was about to experience something new and I wasn’t sure what to expect.  Would I get distracted with my thoughts of feeling like I wasn’t really there, but was?  Would watching a play on a big screen feel too much like being at the cinema for me to enjoy the ‘theatre’ atmosphere?   Would I even feel the theatre experience?  Lost in my thoughts, the play began…

The first ‘thing’ I saw was indeed a ‘thing’.  It was the parts of a wooden/leather foal being held in the position/shape of a foal by 3 humans ‘acting out’ being a horse.  Odd.  But strangely realistic, strangely atmospheric and I was strangely drawn in from the word go.

A few scenes in and the foal dramatically yet seamlessly turned into ‘Joey’ the adult horse (excuse my lack of equine knowledge – this may not be the correct terminology).

There were now 2 humans actually inside the ‘carcass’ of the horse and it was absolutely incredible to watch.  The choreography, the stage direction and the ability of the actors to work together to bring the whole concept of adapting the novel ‘Warhorse’ to stage was mind-blowing and powerful.

I cannot not do justice to the outline of the novel by Michael Morpugo, the adapation of the novel to the stage or the deeply powerful themes of ‘Warhorse’ justice in a short blog post.  Therefore, I feel that less is more and instead will leave you with the aforementioned link about the novel and an image of ‘Joey’ the horse on stage… and yes I most certainly did get wrapped up in the theatre experience…

Imagination

imagination

Imagination knows no bounds.  Let it loose and your imagination knows no limits.  I’m coming to final furlong of preparing my children’s book for print.  It’s been an immense, intense and exciting journey.  If it wasn’t for my imagination, I wouldn’t have travelled this road.

That’s why ‘imagination’ is my #WordoftheWeek
