“The Chip in the Tea Cup” ~ a poem about memories

theme game memories poem

“The Chip in the Tea Cup”

Washing up in a bit of a rush,

‘Chink’, I hear that sound…

I look on the drainer, the chip

Says it all; slow down, slow down, slow down.

~

“It’s only a mug,” I tell myself,

Just a bit of pottery,

But still it holds memories from long

Ago and my heart goes into my mouth.

~

My stomach lurches, I begin

To feel sad.  That mug was a part of me,

It was used all the time, I hadn’t realised til now

The warm fuzzy feeling inside.

~

So, why use it at all?

Why not save it ‘for show’

In a cupboard to gather dust?

I won’t keep it for ‘best’ for a day far away

Because that just isn’t me.

~

Memories should be nurtured day after day,

Remembered, relived, re-told.

Bring the memories to life, don’t hide them away

Lest they be forgot and fade away.

~

I’ll hold onto my memories with all

My might; I look at the chip again.

The water drains off, swirls down the plug

But my memories still pump through my heart.

‘Love’ aka simply ‘L’

the theme game love

What do you do when

They’re there all the time?

Waking. Breathing.

Eating. Breathing.

Sleeping. Breathing.

Working. Breathing.

Dreaming.

~

You can dream.

But you know it has been.

Not a has been,

But it has been.

Could it be again?  You like to

Think so.

~

Mixed are those signals.

Am I no good at decoding

Those signals?  Reading

Too much into them.

Both good and bad.

Hanging like a floating bubble,

Changing colour and waiting to

Burst.

Building up to a big bang.

Good or bad.

~

Could be good.  Can’t help thinking

It will turn out bad.

Why hope for good?

Loneliness could be the key.

It’s a key that doesn’t fit the lock.

Something is around the corner

Waiting to unlock it properly.

~

The world is full of  ‘L’.

Everywhere you look there’s ‘L’.

All you need is ‘L’.

But a different kind for me.

Mine has to be perfect,

Otherwise that big bubble could burst before time.

~

Too many ‘been there and done that’

Scenarios.

Want to,

Need to get somewhere with that

‘L’ thing.

~

Wherever, whatever, however, whenever

The bubble bursts,

I know that way into the far

Distant future…

I know that they will be there

All the time.

Breathing. Dreaming… dreaming.

This is my take on the theme of ‘love’ with The Reading Residence and Redpeffer.  I wrote it back in January 1999 and, apart from my college tutor, this is the first time it’s been seen and ‘published’… It’s been archived in my college writing portfolio all this time.  I knew it was in there, so when this week’s theme was announced, I knew I had to dig it out!  I’m so glad I have because I’m very proud of my writing portfolio.  Maybe I should air the other pieces too…

Why not share the love of The Theme Game and join in?

Cancer, jog on! A poem for Race for Life…

 Cancer, jog on!

Word of the Week Cancer jog on poem

In July I will  be running Race for Life.

I’ve blogged about how much I’ve achieved through the Couch to 5k app here.

I’ve come from barely being able to jog for 60 seconds at any one time, to jogging for 30 minutes non-stop…  how good is that?!

For me, it’s very good.  I’m very proud of myself.  I’ve shocked myself and found a new hobby that I love…

(aside from blogging of course!)

Please, please get behind me… re-blog, like, comment, share, share, share ……and share again across all of your social media platforms!  It’s not for me, it’s for everyone who has been touched by cancer.

And let’s face it, that really is everyone.

My justgiving page link is at the bottom of the poem (in the main blog picture above) but here it is again for good measure.

Thank you 🙂

~

My #Word of the Week this week is ‘jog on’.  Okay so actually it’s 2 but I’m sure that’ll be allowed, just this once 😉

Where is the beginning? A poem on chakra meditation

lotus the theme game chakra meditation

Where is the beginning?

What’s at the beginning?

It all starts at the root,

When we’re not grounded,

Branches can’t develop their shoots.

~

Our branches need feeding

With healthy, wholesome foods,

If not they imbalance

And affect our moods.

~

When we work from the bottom

And end up at the top,

We have spinning wheels, or

‘chakras’ which never stop…

~

Want to feel peaceful and calm?

Meditate daily, don’t be shy,

And your friends they may comment,

Share the love, tell them why…

~

…Why you’re feeling grounded

And rooted, like a tree to the earth.

Why those positive thoughts and good food

Give a sense of self-worth.

~

…Why you’re feeling creative

Bursting with thoughts and ideas,

As they ebb and flow like the water,

Eroding your fears.

~

…Why your ego’s not ‘pumped up’,

You’re calm and ‘together’,

You don’t listen to the bad things,

You don’t need ‘lucky heather’.

~

…Why your breathing’s steady and easy

While your heart pumps fresh air,

Pure and cleansed through your body,

To keep you alert and ‘all there’.

~

…Why you’re feeling expressive

And you’re speaking your mind,

Being open and clear,

It’s the best way, you will find.

~

…Why your sixth sense is open,

It’s your third eye, you see.

Is your perception of reality

With them or with ‘me’?

~

…Why your crown’s like a flower,

Its stem’s like your spine,

A petal for each chakra

Now you’re upright and ‘aligned’.

~

Now you’re beginning to see

What your thoughts can do,

Breathe slowly, be mindful

That it all starts with you.

Virtually All Sorts of blogs in the weekly round-up 5

virtually all sorts of blogs weekly round-up 2

It’s time to mention a few blogs that I’ve enjoyed reading in the past week or so…  I hope you like them as much as I did:

Is it MollyGoLightly or MollyGoSlightly? Either way, she’s reflecting in her non-rhyming rhyme.

These are profound and simple words that make so much sense from Becky Due about Appreciating the Low.

And finally, whoever would have thought that funerals could be fun?  A humourous but sensitive look at the most sombre of occasions from Big Cheese Dad.  After a recent family bereavement, this really rang true…

The Four Walls and the Fences

The Theme Game home four walls

The time was going quickly,

The landscape whizzing by,

No sooner had she left the platform,

Feelings were soaring high…

~

The clankety-clank of the wheels,

The swaying of the train,

Had left her feeling sleepy,

And excited all the same.

~

Familiar sights coming into view,

Feelings still as high,

The train grinding to a halt,

It all made her wonder why.

~

Why she felt a pang of loss,

Why she felt at ease,

Why she was missing where she had left,

Why she felt so pleased.

~

Then the familiar face,

Waiting at the side,

The warm welcome greeted her,

From a hug to the loving eyes.

~

This weekend had come up fast,

For that was elated,

But the four days would just not last,

And for that felt deflated.

~

Familiar sights, sounds, tastes, feelings, smells,

All of the five senses,

Never leave home where the proverbial heart is,

The four walls and the fences.

‘W’ is for ‘weekly’ round-up

a to z challenge weekly blog round up

It’s time to mention a few blogs that I’ve enjoyed reading in the past week or so…  I hope you like them as much as I do:

This poem from Raggedsoulinco is very powerful and speaks volumes about mental health.

Karen Jones Gowen blogged about a stunning bird.  I used to own a parrot – they are such pretty and intelligent creatures.

The art of not getting published mentioned some wonderful quotes from writers to inspire and enjoy…

And that’s why this week’s round-up is ‘w’ for weekly!

It’s Time for a Treat…

virtually all sorts theme game treat

It’s Time for a Treat…

Ever stopped to think

Of your day to day life,

As a daughter, sister, mum

And maybe a wife?

~

We wear all the hats

As we juggle the balls.

We come up trumps

When the ace card falls.

~

My house of cards has

The odd shuffle, it’s true.

The King and the Queen,

The Joker’s there too.

~

But look through the keyhole

Any day and you’ll see

We’re full with love and laughter,

The best things are free.

~

With the usual humdrum

Of day to day living,

Don’t forget about ‘you’

Cos you’re constantly ‘giving’…

~

Giving time and attention,

It’s not that you mind,

But it’s time for a treat,

Leave your ‘hats’ behind…

“Doorway” ~ Why a blog is like a house

blog pic Doorway 8th Jan 2014

A warm welcome to my blog, you will see it’s like a house.

Come over the threshold, turn the handle, the proverbial ‘mouse’.

In the hallway it’s fresh and light, it’s the decor, it’s the ‘theme’.

It’s personal choice, it reflects your blog, it’s the first thing to be seen.

My visitors are my ‘followers’, they come by every day.

A refreshing drink and a chat, it’s great to hear what they say.

Into the kitchen, kettle on, time for coffee and cake.

I love to hear their thoughts and banter, with the ‘comments’ that they make.

Into the lounge, take a seat, make yourself at home.

Escuse me a minute, look around while I answer the phone.

Someone’s got lost, their sat nav’s broken, they don’t know where to go,

When you’re trying to find my blog, you rely on good ‘SEO’.

Back again.  What to do when the comments halt or stall?

You can get fresh air from a proverbial ‘window’ when you hit a blog ‘brick wall’.

Up the stairs, one by one, this is your ranking goal,

A comfort break to the bathroom and of course the ‘blog roll’!

So, is your ‘house’ on a busy road or is it a dead end?

Good content’s vital for your blog, remember this my friend.

Just like a house, a blog’s good structure really is the ‘key’,

Come in, through my ‘doorway’, you’re always welcome, come and visit me!

Ode to ‘Man Flu’ ~ The Tissue Issue

20131208-150349.jpg

Ode to ‘Man Flu’ ~ The Tissue Issue

The common cold is, well,common – it’s a virus
That goes, well, ‘viral’ quicker than Miley Cyrus.
There are 3 in our house and we’ve all got a cold
But for the ‘man’ it’s the worse thing ever to behold.

As ever, I soldier on through tissues and sneezes
But hubby moans n whinges, I’m sick of his wheezes.
To him, it’s ‘man flu’; oh please, man flu?!
To me it’s a commotion and such a to-do.

My head is so woolly, my nose is so sore,
Any more whinging, he can sleep on the floor.
Our first aid cupboard is full with pills and with potions
To deal with man flu and other such commotions.

All night long, I’m not joking, I hear cough, I hear splutter,
“Oh man up,” under my breath you may hear me mutter.
“Here, take this ‘dear’, you’ll sleep better,” I say,
And as the fairer sex I ‘keep calm and carry on’, come what may!…
